Reminder

The skipper of the boat is always responsible for ensuring the area, weather and sea conditions are satisfactory for the safe use of the craft they are using.


TOURNAMENT RULES

 

Eligibility

A team may be comprised of any number of anglers (not less than two) with only one team per boat.  The team captain must enter and participate in the tournament.  Each team member must be a current financial member of the Tauranga Game Fishing Club (Inc.) or a club affiliated to the New Zealand Big Game Fishing Council.  If visiting anglers cannot produce current membership cards, their membership will be checked through the secretary of their club.  Failure to be a financial member of a club will result in disqualification from the contest.  Team Captains are responsible for this.  Day membership to the Tauranga Game Fishing Club (Inc.) of $20 per day will be accepted.

 

Contest Fees

Entry fees are $125 per angler.  All angler fees must be paid for by the conclusion of briefing night, Tuesday 2 March 2010.

 

Registration

The team captain or a member of the team must register for the tournament and sign an acknowledgement that he/she has read and accepts the rules for the One Base Tournament.  A starter pack will be issued to each team.  Registration opens at 1300hrs (1.00pm) on Tue 2 March 2010 and is located in the TGFC Clubrooms.  Anglers must produce some form of ID when registering.  No refunds will be given after 1900hrs (7.00pm) on Briefing night.

 

Briefing

Attendance at the pre-tournament briefing is compulsory by at least one member of each team, unless the Tournament Committee has granted an exemption.  Briefing will be held in the One Base Marquee at the Tauranga Marina and commences at 1900hrs (7.00pm) on Tuesday 2 March 2010.  Please check-in with the One Base Reception staff in the Marquee on Tuesday between 1700hrs (5.00pm) – 1900hrs (7.00pm), who will record your attendance.  Anglers checking in must present their angler pass.

 

Start on Day One

No boat in the tournament may commence fishing before 0730hrs (7.30am) on Wednesday 3 March 2010 and may then fish continuously until 1500hrs(3.00pm) on Saturday 6 March 2010.

 

Fishing Area

As per Chart NZ54. 

 

Cancelled Fishing Days

In the event that any day’s fishing is cancelled due to bad weather or any other unforeseen event or circumstance, notification will be via SEACOMS, channel 3.  The Club will also notify the following Coastguards: Whitianga, Whangamata, Whakatane and Waihau Bay.  Any vessels outside of SEACOM coverage should make contact with one of the above Coastguards.  Where possible and practicable the Tournament Committee will make the decision to cancel any days fishing the previous evening.

 

Departing Tauranga

Trailer boats may launch and recover anywhere within Chart 54 however NO TEAM fishing the tournament may depart Tauranga until after briefing on Tuesday 2 March 2010.

 

Stay Away

All vessels must notify Tournament headquarters of their intention to stay away and also their intended overnight location at midday roundup or prior to going out of radio range each day.

 

Prior to leaving SEACOMS VHF coverage area boats are to radio SEACOMS and then establish communications with the relevant Coastguards: Whitianga VHF Ch 61, Whangamata VHF Ch 84, Whakatane VHF Ch 80, Waihau Bay VHF Ch 63.  Inform the above that they are fishing the TGFC One Base and advise of intended overnight location.

 

Fishing Times

Wed 3 March 2010        

Start Fishing:             From 0730hrs (7.30am) continuous until 1500hrs (3.00pm) Saturday 6 March 2010

 

Sat 6 March 2010          

Final weigh in time:  1500hrs (3.00pm).  All fish must be at the weigh station by final weigh in time 1500hrs (3.00pm) (no exceptions).

 

Hook Ups

All hook-ups (except snapper) must be radioed to the Tournament Base.  The result of hook-ups are also to be radioed to base immediately, acknowledging whether the fish is landed, tagged or lost.  Failure to report hookups could result in fish being disqualified.

 

Radios

All boats must be equipped with a VHF RADIO IN GOOD WORKING ORDER and be in radio contact with Tournament Base at all times on the designated channels.  A sponsors’ grid map is supplied and all reports must be relayed, with team number, boat name and the area being fished. 

 

Communication with the Tournament Committee

During fishing times, any queries directed to the Tournament Committee, must initially be made via VHF radio through SEACOMS.  Cellphones or similar type devices may be used if outside VHF range.

 

Team Numbers

Remember your team number so you can quote it along with your boat name, when making radio contact.

 

IGFA Rules and Regulations for Sponsored Tournaments

In all matters not specifically covered, either IGFA Rules or Regulations for the Tauranga Game Fishing Club Sponsored Tournaments will apply.

 

Tackle

All tackle must be in accordance with IGFA Rules and Regulations but shall not exceed 60kg.

 

Weigh In

Angler must present catch card and fish at the TGFC official weigh station by 1830hrs (6:30pm) to be included in that day’s prize giving.  All catches after this time will be weighed and included in the following day’s prize giving apart from the last day when final weigh in is at 1500hrs (3.00pm). 

 

Fish caught on any day must be presented to the weigh station no later than 1830hrs (6.30pm) on the following day to qualify unless this cannot be achieved due to safety reasons.  In that event fish must be reported to SEACOMS on the day caught by whatever means the angler has at his/her disposal.  Failure to report the catch on the day it was caught will result in the fish being disqualified. Except for the final day when all fish must be at the weigh station by 1500hrs (3.00pm).  The weigh master will be available from 0800hrs (8.00am) – 0900hrs (9.00am) by prior arrangement to weigh fish from the previous day, if required.

 

Each angler shall complete a catch card declaring that his/her catch was made in accordance with Tournament Rules. Please use the Tauranga Game Fishing Club catch cards that are included in the tournament starter packs only.  All details are to be clearly entered and the card passed to the weigh person immediately upon arrival at the weigh station.

 

The angler must present all tackle, including gaff, with which the fish was caught.  All lures are to be removed before the fish is weighed.  The club has the right to retain any fish for further analysis if required.

 

Once the catch card has been presented to the weigh master, it cannot be withdrawn.

 

Fish must be presented to the weigh station in a fresh but not frozen condition.  The weigh master will be the sole judge of the fishes condition.

 

During the One Base Tournament, assuming weigh master availability, fish may be weighed at any time outside weigh station times and for any reason but all such fish are excluded from the One Base tournament recognition.

Protests

Any protests concerning the validity of any catch or breach of rules, must be filed in writing, signed by and presented in person to the Tournament Convenor or his/her nominated representative by close of weigh station on the day of the alleged breach.  In case of any protest, the Judicial Committee’s decision is final.  The Tournament Committee reserves the right to change or amend the Tournament or its rules at any stage in the interests of public safety or any advice received.

 

SPECIES AND PRIZES

 

Species

The Tournament will be divided into 6 sections:

Billfish                  Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin & Broadbill

Tag & Release   Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin & Broadbill

Shark                   Mako, Thresher, Tiger, Hammerhead & Blue Shark

Tuna                    All Tuna

Kingfish               Yellowtail Kingfish

Snapper

 

Tag & Release

All tags require photographic evidence clearly showing the tag in the fish on a digital camera or camera phone.  Winner(s) will be the team tagging the most billfish. Cameras recording tagged and released fish must be presented to the weigh master by final weigh in time.  Only healthy fish that have not been removed from the water shall be released.  The Club will not be providing cameras this year.  Digital cameras must have the date function ON.  Angler complete with tag card, catch card and digital camera along with all tackle with which the fish was caught must be at the weigh station no later than 1500hrs (3.00pm) Saturday 7 March.

Short Billed Spearfish and Mahi Mahi

Prizes will be awarded for the heaviest overall of each of these species if caught.

 

Daily Prize Giving

Daily prize giving will be held each night commencing at 1900hrs (7.00pm) except for Saturday 1800hrs (6.00pm).   Tuesday and Saturday in the marquee; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the Club.

Prizes and draws will consist of:

 

Daily Fish Prizes:

3 heaviest billfish (Blue, Black, Striped, Broadbill), Tuna and Yellowtail Kingfish

1 Heaviest Shark and 1 Heaviest Snapper

All Tag and Release Billfish

 

Lucky Angler Draws:

Angler must be present to receive prize otherwise it will be redrawn until won.

 

Team Draws:

The whole team must be present to receive prize otherwise it will be redrawn until won.

 

Major Prize Giving

The major prize giving will be held following the daily prize giving on Sat night.  Prizes will be awarded to the overall winners as follows:

 

Major Fish Prizes:

1st, 2nd, 3rd Heaviest Billfish (Blue, Black, Striped, Broadbill), Tuna, Shark, Yellowtail Kingfish and Snapper.

All Tagged and Released Billfish.

A trophy will be awarded for the team tagging and releasing the most Billfish.

A trophy will be awarded for the heaviest Striped Marlin.

A trophy will be awarded for the last tag & released Striped Marlin.

In the event of prizes not being won by qualifying fish they will be drawn. (Except for the Billfish tag and release section).  The tournament committee reserves the right to break down prize packages in the event that they are being drawn.

All prize winners please make your way to the stage as quickly as possible, drawing attention to yourself as you do so.  Ensure you have your angler ID with you.

 

Pot Your Mate

DOB-ins, hard luck stories and poems must be handed to Grant at the Information Area located at the entry to the Marquee on Tuesday and Saturday and in the Club Wednesday - Friday nights no later than 1815hrs (6.15pm) each evening to be “aired to the populace”.

 

Important

The distribution of prizes within your team is the team’s responsibility.  Set your ground rules now, as the Club will not get involved with your domestic differences.

 

FACILITIES

 

Entrance to the Marquee

Each angler will be given an ID tag along with one guest pass; these must be worn to enter the marquee. Club members are entitled to enter the tent by showing their membership card.

 

Parking

For those who wish to lock and leave their cars for the duration of the Tournament, special areas outside the normal marina parking have been provided.  Our Parking Wardens will assist you to these areas, which are under security.

 

ANY VEHICLES PARKED ILLEGALLY, INCLUDING THE LOADING ZONES, WILL BE TOWED AWAY AT THE EXPENSE OF THE OWNER.  DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS.

 

Courtesy Coach

For the duration of the Tournament, two vehicles are available up until approximately midnight each night; full details are available at briefing.

 

Telephones

Card phones are available next to the Marina Café for local and toll calls.  Club phones are available for local calls only.

 

Fuel

Diesel is available from the Tauranga Marina.  Please note that petrol is available at the Bridge Marina.  They accept Petroleum Logistics card, Visa and Eftpos.  Petrol and diesel is also available from Fort Nautilus Drystack (Gull).  Please note that Shell cards can no longer be used at the Tauranga or Bridge Marina’s.

 

Water

Supplies of water are available at fuelling stations.

 

Radio

The Tournament will operate in conjunction with Seacoms on VHF Channel 3.  PLEASE keep boat-to-boat chatter to channels 6 or 8.  When you call to record your catch you MUST inform the operator of the boat name, species, angler’s name, line weight, bait / lure, area according to the sponsors grid map.

 

Roundups

There will be one roundup at 1300hrs (1.00pm) each day.  There will be catch reports stating the up to date catches and any other relevant information.  There will be draws each day over the VHF so make sure you are listening.  Anglers must reply over VHF to receive lucky draws, which can be picked up from the information centre at evening prize giving.

 

Weigh Station

ALL fish will be weighed at the TGFC clubhouse.  Purpose-built trolleys are available to transport your fish from your boat to our weigh station.  PLEASE DO NOT USE THE MARINA TROLLEYS – INSTANT FINE APPLIES.  Removal of fish from weigh station is the responsibility of the angler.  Please show respect for our weigh station crew.  They work hard for little reward.  They are here to assist you, so whenever possible, please transport your own fish to the weigh station.

 

Trailer Boats:  Please use the weigh station area with discretion; this is not a parking area.  Weigh station control will guide you.

 

The weigh station shall close no later than 1830hrs (6.30pm) on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and no later than 1500hrs (3.00pm) Saturday.  The closing times may only be extended at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.  Arrangements may be made with the weigh master to weigh fish from the previous day between 0800hrs (8.00am) and 0900hrs (9.00am).

 

Photographs

ALL fish weighed will be photographed with angler/team if requested.  A photographer (Smile/click) will be on hand each night for prize giving and draws.  Photos will be on display the same evening.  Please order your photos directly from the photographer.  A photographer will be available to take individual and team photos in the marquee on briefing night.

 

Fish Smoking

A fish smoking service is available each day from the weigh station. If you require this service please inform the weigh master immediately on arrival at the weigh station. If you do not require your fish to be smoked, a refrigerated chiller is available for storage of your catch.

 

Rubbish

“Please keep our harbour and marina clean” Use rubbish receptacles provided.

 

Showers

Showers are available in the Clubhouse.  Marina showers are available to key holders, bring your own towel.

 

Bar / Entertainment

The bar in the marquee will be open from 1700hrs (5.00pm) Tuesday and Saturday (Wednesday – Friday normal hours in the Club).  There will be entertainment on Saturday: Band to be advised.

 

Meals

Meals will be available in the marquee from 1730hrs (5.30pm) Tuesday and Saturday at $16.00 a head.  The kitchen in the Club will be operating normal hours throughout the tournament.
