WEIGH STATION REPORT

The Coastal Fishing Charters Albacore /Puka Tournament was held over the weekend 10 – 11 September with 76 anglers fishing off 26 boats.  The forecast was for good weather on Saturday turning to the proverbial on Sunday and this time metservice were right on the button.

No albacore had been weighed at the Club prior to the tournament however three were presented at the weigh station on Sunday.  The heaviest was caught by the tournament sponsor Stu Buchanan fishing off his own boat Strictly Fishing.  The fish was caught on 24 kg at Mayor and weighed 17.900kg.  Phil Eynon weighed the second albacore which weighed 13.600kg caught on 24kg off Sunkist at Mayor.  Jill Gray fishing with Tom Gollop on Free Flo caught the heaviest fish in the puka section.  It was a 71.700kg bass caught on 24kg at Mayor and is a new ladies club record.  Jill also caught a hapuku of just under 70kg on the same day but it wasn’t a tournament fish. Therefore second place went to Paul Sanford off Okahu who weighed a bluenose of 10.850kg caught on 37kg at the Mayor Knolls.  To all prize winners, congratulations.

A special thanks goes to Stu Buchanan of coastal Fishing Charters for the generous sponsorship of this event.

The next tournament will be the All About Construction Inter Club Tournament which will be held over the weekend 29 – 30 October.  The Mount currently holds the trophy and we would dearly love to have it back.  On the weekend after the Inter Club is the De Coro Soft Bait Tournament.

Thanks to Donna, Gordon, and Brent for doing the weigh station.

That’s it from the weigh station for now, so until next time, tight lines and stay safe out there.
